The cumulative distribution of number of people as a function of the distance to the nearest city. The cities are determined through clustering of the population dataset for 23 countries. About 44% of the population lives in urban areas, while 99% of the population lives within 63 km of the nearest city. While this distance varies on a country to country basis, for most countries (20) this range is below 90 km.
